Went out to visit the bees today. On Sunday we added a second "story" to their hive to give them more room to expand. If they run out of space they will swarm and go to find a new place to live. So, we wanted to make sure they had enough space to expand. Plus, we gave them some pollen patties to supplement their feeding and the patties make the queen lay more brood. She sees that pollen is in the area and begins to lay more babies and we need to have more bees so the hives become stronger. We spoke to our resident "bee expert" and he said we could stop feeding them sugar water. However, we want them as strong as possible so I think we will continue to feed them every other day and keep them as strong as possible. They need to fill 3-4 frames on the second level to make it through the winter. Go Bees!
